Ingredients
Let’s start with what you need. Below we have an ingredients list and quantities to make Pescado a la Diabla for four people.
- 4 filets tilapia (or other white fish)
- 4 guajillo peppers
- 4 cups of water
- 3 chile de arbol peppers
- 1 chipotle pepper
- ½ onion divided
- 1 garlic clove
- 3 tomatoes quartered
- 1 ½ tbsp of salt
- 1 tbsp olive oil
We know this recipe has a good amount of chili in it! If you want to make it even spicier, we recommend doubling the chipotle pepper quantity.
You could also add another chile de arbol if you wanted. This will give the sauce an extra kick and is sure to get your tongue tingling!
Alternatively, if you want the sauce to be milder, you can add a tablespoon of ketchup.
This won’t impact the texture or consistency of the sauce, but it will add some sweetness to the dish. It also helps to cancel out some of the spice, making it milder.
You can also add another tomato if you want. Make sure that your tomatoes are sweet, though, as you don’t want to have a bitter sauce.
If your tomatoes are a little sharp, add a teaspoon of sugar to the sauce a few minutes before serving.
This will help to balance the sharp tomatoes and add some sweetness to the sauce. Be careful not to add too much, though, as you don’t want the sauce to be too sweet!
