  • Kosher Salt
  • Water
  • Refried Beans
  • Olive Oil
  • Tomatillo Avocado Salsa
  • Mayonnaise
  • Chipotles in Adobo
  • Garlic Cloves
  • Lime Juice
  • White Onions
  • Squash Blossoms

These are the ingredients you are going to need in order to make the huarache dough and the chipotle aioli, and squash blossoms.

Now that you know what you will need we can finally take a look at how you can make this dough and turn it into something delicious.

So, without further ado, let us dive right in and get started!

1. Make Your Masa

Make Your Masa

Your first step is to make the huarache dough or masa. First you will need to combine your masa harina and salt into a big bowl. Once you have added those two ingredients you will need to add the water.

Start with only one cup and add more if you need it. Mix your ingredients until the mixture is smooth and forms a dough. Your dough should be tacky but not sticky and it should not be cracking either.

Once you have your dough you will then need to knead it for about two minutes so that the flour is properly hydrated.

2. Divide Your Dough

With your tacky and kneaded dough you should then divide it into six portions. Each one should be equal and weigh about four ounces each.

Next, cover your dough with plastic wrap so that it does not dry out while you do your other steps.

3. Fold Your Dough And Fill with Beans

For this step you are going to need to make sure that your hands are wet. You will need to pat one of your pieces of dough into a nice thick circle. Your circles should be about the size of your hands.

Once you have your dough is the right size and thickness you should then add a spoon of beans on top. Spread it around and make sure to leave about a half inch border.

4. Roll And Fold Your Dough

With the beans in your dough you will then need to fold the dough around the beans. It should look a bit like you have closed a taco.

Once you have closed your tacos you will then need to pinch the ends so that they are sealed together. Once that is done then you will need to roll each one into a thick cylinder. They should look a bit like a cigar.

5. Press Your Beans Thin

To do this you can use one of the following: Tortilla Press, Rolling Pin or a Huarache Press.

When you are pressing your huarache you will need to place the dough between the two pieces of thin plastic and then press down and flatten them with your hand a little afterwards.

Your huarache should be about a half inch thick once you are done pressing them.

6. Cook Your Huaraches

Now that you have your huaraches you can then heat your heavy skillet. Make sure that they are put on a medium-high heat. You need your pan hot but not smoking.

Using wet hands you can then flip your huarache using your right hand and place them on your hot skillet.

Allow your huaraches to cook without being disturbed for about two to three minutes. This is so that they form a delicious crust. Once this time has elapsed you will then need to flip your huaraches and cook on the other side.

7. Make Your Chipotle Aioli

Now that you have your delicious hot huaraches you will need a delicious chipotle aioli to go with it. Add all the ingredients you need in a little bowl. Add your seasoning to taste before you move on to the next step.

8. Make Your Squash Blossoms

You will also need to make squash blossoms, to start you will need to heat up some oil in a big frying pan. Add your onions and season them using salt and pepper.

To cook them you will simply need to allow them to dry while stirring them every so often. Once they are tender and start to brown you can then add the garlic and allow it to cook for about a minute.

Once that time has elapsed you can then add your squash blossoms and a little more seasoning. Cook for about one minute and cover the mixture before you take the mixture off the heat.

9. Fry Your Huaraches

Now that you have done all of that, it is finally time to fry your huaraches. First, add about a tablespoon of olive oil to a large frying pan. Put it on your stove top and put it on a medium heat.

Next, add one to two huaraches to the oil and fry them on both sides. They should be a lovely golden brown and warm all the way through then they are done.

10. Assemble Your Huaraches And Enjoy

Now that you have made everything, all that is left to do is spread a delicious layer of tomatillo salsa on The bottom of your huaraches and put some squash blossoms on them. Add a bit of chipotle and you will be in heaven.
