Stroganoff is a traditional Russian dish, most commonly made with sautéd pieces of beef in a savory, creamy gravy-like sauce with mushrooms.
While I love traditional dishes, I thought I would shed a light on the less traditional variations of this dish, in particular, pork stroganoff.
It may not seem like switching beef for pork wouldn’t make very much difference to the dish, but, pork stroganoff can actually taste very different from its beef counterpart.
This article is a round-up of my favorite pork stroganoff recipes I think you need to try! Keep reading to find your new favorite dish.
What is pork stroganoff?
Pork stroganoff is a pork dish cooked in a rich, creamy sauce with mushrooms, and served over buttered noodles or rice. It has been known to be served with various other side dishes, too, such as potatoes.
Check out the recipes below to find out more about the delicious ingredients used in this tasty dish.
1. Pork Stroganoff with Buttered Noodles | sprinklesandsprouts.com
This pork stroganoff is the best kind of comfort food! Tender pork, cooked with mushrooms and onions in a creamy sauce.
The combination of tenderloin pork cooked until juicy (and not a minute more) with a creamy sauce and served on top of delicious buttered noodles is simply an irresistible recipe you simply have to try.
Plus, this recipe uses all fresh ingredients and still only takes 15 minutes to prepare!
2. Creamy Pork Stroganoff | food.com
This recipe is another creamy option, but this one includes a few extra ingredients that you might want to consider. It also takes a little longer to make, but the results are totally worth it!
It is recommended that you marinate the pork in a lemon, lime, honey and mustard marinade for one to eight hours before cooking.
As with all great recipes, this one includes white wine!
The flavors from the wine combined with the added creaminess of crème fraîche make this a seriously creamy pork stroganoff to be indulged with family and friends or on a chilly evening curled up on the couch.
What’s great about this recipe is that by adding a splash of dry white wine, it instantly becomes a classier dish, worthy of dinner parties.
The recipe recommends serving it with either buttered noodles or fluffy white rice.
3. Easy Pork Stroganoff | greendale.com
The perfect option if you’re short on time, this easy pork stroganoff recipe will be a lifesaver when time is tight!
This recipe is served with rice but if you’d prefer to serve it with noodles, pasta, homemade fried, you name it, it can be easily adapted – this is just the easiest option.
This recipe also incorporated white wine and mustard flavors, but is still deliciously creamy and satisfying.
It doesn’t require marinating the pork either, so it’s much quicker to make, but the flavors may not be as strong and the pork may not be as juicy and tender.
4. Pork Stroganoff | goodto.com
This recipe calls for low fat pork fillets, so it is a great healthier option without compromising on flavor.
What’s particularly about this recipe is that it also calls for gherkins (!), which may sound a bit strange, but they actually add a delicious punch of acidity and savoriness that combats the sweet, creamy sauce perfectly.
When it comes to serving, this recipe recommends using tagliatelle – yum!
5. Repurposed Leftovers for Stroganoff | thespruceeats.com
This is a great budget-friendly option. If you have some leftover pork and don’t know what to do with it, look no further.
This recipe only takes 30 minutes to prepare.
The pork might not be as tender as if you used marinated pork loin but for a recipe that utilizes leftovers it will still produce a delicious meal for you and my family – perfect if you’re coming up to the weekly food run, and you want to use up what you’ve got left.
6. Pork Stroganoff Tray Bake | taste.com
This recipe is another great option for a weeknight dinner for you and your family to enjoy.
Simply throwing all the ingredients into a tray to bake in the oven will also require less attention than the standard cooking method, so you can place it in the oven and continue with any other household chores etc. and return to a delicious home-cooked meal!
This recipe also includes green beans for good measure – a great way to add more veggies and nutrients to your meals.
7. Slow Cooker Pork Stroganoff | taste.com
This method will of course take much longer than the previous recipe, but it also requires almost no attention because once you’ve prepared all the ingredients, the slow cooker will do the rest.
So, you can carry on with your day and come home to a hot, cooked meal, made from scratch!
Overall, this recipe takes six hours to cook but only 35 minutes to prepare. By slow cooking the dish, the meat and all other ingredients will be super tender and packed with flavor.
This recipe also calls for lots more paprika than standard recipes, so it makes for a comforting weekend dish with a nice punch of flavor to compliment the creaminess of the sauce.
8. Pork Stroganoff | spicysouthernkitchen.com
This recipe has a few extra yummy ingredients than your usual pork stroganoff. This version calls for pancetta, garlic and sage to create a savory, meaty dish paired with a richly flavored creamy sauce.
Everybody knows pancetta, mushrooms and cream were meant to go together. Nothing says comfort food quite like these flavors!
This recipe takes just under 45 minutes in total to prepare and cook, and it serves four at just over 600 calories a bowl.
9. Pork Stroganoff Steaks | coles.com
This recipe puts a twist on the classic recipe with pork stroganoff steaks – delish!
Serve with veggies and mashed potatoes and cover with the classic rich and creamy stroganoff sauce.
So, if you don’t feel like eating the classic stroganoff dish served over noodles or rice, this recipe is the perfect option if you love the flavors of the stroganoff sauce but feel like eating some different textures.
Plus, a creamy sauce served with mashed potatoes is a match made in heaven!
10. Pork Stroganoff with Dill | ketocookingwins.com
Another interesting twist on the classic recipe, this pork stroganoff with dill recipe from ketocookingwins.com experiments with dill.
Plus, it’s keto-friendly, so it’s super low in carbs and high in nutrients – win-win!
This recipe serves it with zucchini noodles or ‘zoodles’ instead of buttered noodles or rice, which is what makes it so low in carbs.
The addition of dill flavors is a tasty twist on the staple paprika and mushroom flavors. Altogether, this recipe is 430 calories per portion, which is incredible.
This recipe only serves one, but you can easily multiply the ingredients to make a bigger batch.
11. Pork Stroganoff with Pan Fried Potatoes | wowfood.guru
To make up for the lack of carbs in the previous recipe, this wowfood.guru recipe features the best carb of all – the humble potato!
Traditionally, pork stroganoff is served with buttered noodles or rice, but this recipe calls for pan fried potatoes instead and honestly, I’m not mad about it.
Pan fried potatoes are a delicious addition to any meal, but I imagine the combination of a rich creamy sauce and tender, juicy pork with crispy yet fluffy pan fried potatoes will make for a super delightful dish.
12. Cheesy Pork Stroganoff Pull Apart | sunporkfreshfoods.com
Next up, a very big twist on the original recipe, but it looks so irresistible I had to include it in this list!
Another one for the carb lovers out there, this recipe combines pork stroganoff with cheesy baked bread – can you imagine anything tastier?
It won’t necessarily work as a meal you would serve at a dinner party or to warm up you and your family on a winter evening, but it will satisfy all your cheesy, carb cravings with the added bonus of all the flavors of a pork stroganoff.
We seriously recommend you give this a try the next time you really want to impress your family and friends!
13. Milk Braised Pork Stroganoff with Butternut Squash noodles | foodservicedirector.com
A delicious modern take on the traditional dish, this recipe calls for ribbons of butternut squash noodles instead of the classic egg noodles.
The pork is also cooked slightly differently. It is braised in milk along with a handful of delicious seasonings including sage, cinnamon, red pepper flakes, garlic, bay leaves and vanilla paste.
Braising it in this way will make the pork nice and crispy on the outside and succulent on the inside and packed with flavor!
Final Say
Pork Stroganoff is clearly a super versatile dish that can suit any mood or craving. Whether it’s made the traditional way or with a twist, it’s the perfect dish for a hearty dinner. I hope these recipes have inspired you to try it!
